The Lamar Fire Department responds to calls within the City of Lamar as well as city owned properties in Prowers County.  We operate out of three fire stations.  Station 1 (pictured above center) is located at 505 South Main Street in Lamar.  It is the only fire station manned twenty four hours a day.  It houses the department’s administrative offices as well as Engine 1, Quint 1, Engine 2, Rescue 1 and two ambulances.  Station 2 (pictured above right) is located at 300 East Poplar Street in Lamar serves as the department training center and houses Engine 3, Truck 1, Haz Mat 1 and two ambulances.  It also serves as the fire station for all Prowers County Rural Fire Department apparatus.  Station 3 is located at the Lamar Municipal Airport.  It houses Airport 1.  This small truck carries twin agent foam and Class B powder for use in aircraft rescue and firefighting.

The Lamar Fire Department functions with seven paid firefighters and approximately twenty-seven part-time firefighters.  We also utilize the assistance of the Lamar-Prowers County Volunteer Fire Department.  The department responds to approximately 190 fire related incidents annually.  We also protect our community with a very active fire prevention program.  Our firefighters inspect approximately 600 public occupancies annually.  In further attempts to minimize loss of life and property to fire we are actively involved in fire prevention activities in the schools and community gatherings.

The City of Lamar maintains an ISO rating of 5.  In an effort to maintain optimum readiness each of our pumping apparatus are service tested annually.  Each pumping apparatus is capable of pumping at the capacity rated by the vehicle manufacturer.  We also conduct annual testing of every section of fire hose within the department inventory.  Hoses which fail are either repaired or replaced.  Air quality testing is performed on our self contained breathing apparatus compressor on a quarterly basis.  Service testing is performed by an independent testing facility on our ladders at prescribed intervals.
